A

Account

A unique entity within your organization that grants access to the OpsRamp platform. Your organization has a partner account accessed via a URL such as https://{my-organization}.app.opsramp.com. A partner is the master tenant that manages multiple client accounts. Users can have only one account within a partner or client domain.

Alert / Alerting

A processed event generated by a monitor when a predefined condition is met. Alerts can trigger escalations and incidents.

Alert Correlation

Automatically groups related alerts using:

  • Time-window-based correlation
  • Machine learning (ML) models
  • Discovery topology
  • Similarity analysis

Alert Escalation

Triggers notifications or incident creation based on configured escalation policies.

Auto-Monitoring

Automatically collects resource metrics without requiring predefined templates. This approach minimizes setup time and ensures continuous monitoring.

C

Client

A sub-tenant of a partner that operates independently. Clients have their own user base and resource management policies.

Cloud Monitoring

The ability to monitor cloud-based infrastructure, services, and applications to ensure performance and availability.

Collector Profiles

Predefined configurations that dictate how data collection agents gather and transmit monitoring data from IT resources to the OpsRamp platform.

Connector

An OpsRamp module that facilitates API-based integrations with third-party applications.

Curated Dashboards

Preconfigured dashboards that provide real-time insights into the health of IT environments.

D

Dashboard

A customizable interface that displays infrastructure metrics, alerts, and resource health status. Includes pre-built and user-created dashboards.

E

Escalation

A process that routes alerts to users or generates incidents for resolution.

Event

A system-generated notification when a condition is detected by a monitor. Events are processed to create alerts.

Event Correlation

A technique to reduce alert noise by grouping related events into a single, actionable entity.

F

First Response

Automatically suppress or run process automation as the first step in handling an alert.

G

Group

A Group is a logical collection of related resources that simplifies bulk management tasks for administrators. Grouping resources enables efficient operations such as assigning permissions, applying monitoring policies, and automating workflows.

Resources and applications with shared characteristics can be grouped together, either automatically based on predefined rules or manually by administrators. Groups can also be nested within other groups without any restriction on the number of nesting levels, allowing for flexible resource management.

I

Incident

A critical issue that requires intervention to restore service levels. Incidents are created as part of alert escalation and typically have a greater impact than discrete events. The Event and Incident Management module must be enabled for partners or clients to track and manage incidents.

Inference Model

A machine-learning-based correlation technique that categorizes and assesses event significance using multiple methods:

  • Topology-Based Correlation: Analyzes the relationships between IT services and infrastructure components.
  • Clustering-Based Correlation: Groups similar events based on shared attributes, reducing alert noise.
  • Co-Occurrence-Based Correlation: Uses pattern recognition to identify root causes by analyzing historical alert sequences.

Integration

A connection between OpsRamp and external applications or services that enables data exchange, including monitoring metrics. Integrations can be implemented using REST APIs, Webhooks, or email ingestion.

L

Logs

Recorded events from IT infrastructure components that provide insights into system behavior, performance, and security issues.

M

Metric

A quantifiable data point collected from IT infrastructure components.

Monitoring Integrations

Prebuilt integrations that enable OpsRamp to collect and process monitoring data from third-party platforms such as cloud services, networking tools, and application performance management systems.

Monitoring Template

A predefined set of monitoring configurations that define which metrics to track, how frequently to collect data, and when to trigger alerts for a given resource type.

Monitoring

The process of tracking resource performance through various collection mechanisms:

  • ICMP, SNMP, WMI, and API polling
  • Synthetic transactions
  • Log and event-based monitoring

N

Network Topology

A visual representation of how network components, such as routers, switches, and firewalls, are interconnected within an IT infrastructure.

NetFlow

A network protocol that collects and analyzes network traffic flow data to monitor bandwidth utilization, detect anomalies, and optimize network performance.

Notification

An alert or incident update delivered via email, SMS, or voice.

O

OpsRamp Agent

A lightweight, secure application that runs on managed Linux and Windows servers to facilitate device management. Key functionalities include:

  • Discovery and deployment
  • Asset collection and proactive jobs
  • Script execution and automation
  • Monitoring templates for Windows and Linux
  • Remote Management (RBA)
  • Application monitoring and dashboards
  • Patch management (Microsoft and WSUS policies)

Deployment modes

  • Direct communication with the OpsRamp Cloud
  • Communication via the OpsRamp Gateway
  • Communication via a customer-owned proxy server (e.g., Squid proxy)

Connectivity

  • Uses outgoing TCP/443 for API communication
  • Secures data transmission via TLS and Google protocol buffers
  • Authenticates using OAuth2 with client-specific credentials.

OpsRamp Gateway

A OpsRamp Gateway is a virtual machine that manages devices such as:

  • Network infrastructure, including switches, routers, firewalls, load balancers, and appliances
  • Storage infrastructure
  • Virtual environment
  • Applications, including COTS, Weblogic, and Websphere.

OpsRamp Platform

A cloud-native IT operations management (ITOM) platform that provides AI-driven monitoring, automation, incident management, and infrastructure visibility to optimize IT operations.

P

Partner

The top-level entity in OpsRamp’s multi-tenant architecture that manages client accounts.

Patch Management

A process to ensure IT infrastructure compliance by applying security updates and feature enhancements.

Policy Management

A set of rules that define alerting, monitoring, and automation behavior for IT resources.
